Cardiology Service

Angioplasty (PCI)

A small balloon opens a narrowed artery and a stent — a tiny mesh tube — may be placed to keep it open. It is considered in a heart attack or when a significant blockage causes symptoms. Not every blockage needs a stent, and your doctor will explain your options.

What to expect

  • We show you your angiogram and explain what we see
  • We tell you the alternatives, including medicines and bypass surgery where appropriate
  • Decisions are shared — you are never rushed

This page is for general awareness and is not a substitute for medical advice. Whether a test or procedure is right for you is decided by your doctor after examination.
